klub history - dundee radio car club 1985 - 2010
In mid 1985 a group of friends who were all racing electric off road buggys in Blairgowrie were becoming weary with traveling every Tuesday eveningto race. So they decided to hire a hall and start racing in Dundee, in late 1985 Dundee Radio Car Club was founded.

The first venue we had was at Douglas Primary school. To mark out the track we were given fire hoses from Blackness Fire Station (they are the same ones we still use now, they are now 37 years old).During the summer we raced outside in the playground, then went indoors during the winter months. Sunday afternoons was the day for outdoor racing and Tuesdays evenings for indoor racing. Then it was decided that the club would race indoors permanently. In the early days there was not much racing done indoors, some years we would clear paths in the snow just so we could race. We raced at many differnt venues over the years, they are all listed below.

For about five years, we had the centre area of Castle Green at the end of Brook Street in the Broughty Ferry Gala and had a track laid out there for two days. In those days there used to be 40 club members racing most nights/days. During all of the early years DundeeRCC members would travel mob-handed to national events by sharing spare seats in cars and spreading the costs wherever possible.

In the mid 1990's it was decided by the committee to only run indoors, Monifieth High School was our chosen venue with fitted carpet in the assembly hall we used. By the late 1990's Touring cars had become our main race class. In 2000 the carpet was becoming unfit for use by us and the school and it was lifted and replaced with linoleum which created a very slippery floor which proved difficult for some cars and drivers in the first few years of use.

In 2007 the club returned to carpet racing by laying our own carpet down before building the track, carpet allows for a much more level playing field as there is always plenty of grip. Mardaves were also introduced as a cost effective beginners class but it has become our most popular class. On occasions we have fun nights and still use the slippy floor.

In 2010 the club celebrated it's 25th year anniversary by presenting one of our founding members (who still races today) with a very special trophy to commemorate the effort he has put in to the club over the years.

In 2011 under a new more active committee than in recent years was formed and it was decided to re-brand and re-invent the klub, taking us forward and improving the quality of the facilities we have to offer our members without loosing the fun and enjoyment we all enjoy at our club nights.

Dundee & Angus Radio Controlled Car Klub – darrck.org would like to welcome you to join us in creating our history for the next 25 years.
